The Philippines where I am a citizen will be having a presidential election this May 2010. I have been an active voter since I was 18 years old and this is the legal age where we can start voting. Comelec or the Philippine Commission of Election has stated that by far this is the longest ballot that they will be printing. There are many candidates who are planning to run for president down to the party-list system.
In spite of the sheer number of candidates, I must admit that I have a hard time thinking of who will be the best among them to run the country. I am close to being hopeless. When I see their television ads I find it disconcerting to see and hear them the promise of hope, freedom from poverty and corruption, and so on and so forth. I really find it hard to believe in this promises which are too good to be true. I would have to pray hard and find the one who deserves my vote for I don't want to waste my vote on politicians who are not worthy of my vote. I have to be vigilant and observant because in my vote lies the future of my children.
God bless the Philippines.
